June 4, 2019 Federal health minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor, speaking at BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre, announced that the federal government will be directing 10 million dollars, through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, to cervical cancer researchers in BC for research towards the elimination of cervical cancer.
This funding will support national cervical cancer research. Initiatives will be overseen by world-renowned physician and researcher, Dr. Gina Ogilvie, Professor, UBC School of Population and Public Health, Assistant Director, Women’s Health Research Institute, lead for Global Control of HPV, in collaboration with colleagues spanning the Women’s Health Research Institute at BC Women’s, the BC Elimination of Cervical Cancer Task Force, BC Gynecological Cancer Initiative, and beyond. As part of this cervical cancer research network, the Reproductive Infectious Diseases Team is excited at the discovery, treatment, and implementation possibilities of this substantial investment.
BC Women’s Health Foundation is matching the investment with the support of generous community donations.
