On March 13th, the UBC Women’s Health Research Club released its newest episode of their podcast “Women’s Health: Under the Mic-roscope” which featured an interview of two RID team members, Research Manager Emma Karlsen and Knowledge Mobilization Coordinator Roisin Delaney, on the topic of maternal and congenital syphilis. The discussion spanned many topics relating to maternal and congenital syphilis, including general background knowledge on the disease, as well as updates on the current crisis of extremely high rates of maternal and congenital syphilis occurring across Canada. Additionally, Emma and Roisin advocated for increased testing for syphilis in pregnancy, the easy treatment of the disease through penicillin, as well as details on the REACT-Syph surveillance project the RID Program is conducting!
