From July 13-17th 2025, the International AIDS Society (IAS) hosted the 13th iteration of its global conference on HIV science in Kigali, Rwanda. This conference is hosted by IAS as an opportunity for esteemed professionals from around the world to present on their latest findings in the area of HIV science, as well as fostering global collaboration and innovation in this topic area. At this year’s conference, Dr. Jeffrey Wong presented a poster as part of a session focusing on “Antiretroviral therapies and clinical issues in adults” titled “Developing a prediction model for preterm birth for pregnant people living with HIV in British Columbia, Canada”. This poster described data collected from all singleton pregnancies in women and people living with HIV in BC that delivered between January 1992-December 2022 from the British Columbia Perinatal HIV Surveillance Database, that were analyzed to identify preterm birth risk factors for this population. Additionally, the identified risk factors and overall risk-related data were used to create a prediction model for preterm birth in pregnant women and people living with HIV. Independent risk factors identified from the data included substance use in pregnancy, hepatitis C in pregnancy, unsuppressed viral load at delivery, and sexually transmitted infections or bacterial vaginosis (STIBV) in pregnancy. The poster was received very well, with Dr. Wong presenting to numerous conference attendees and answering their questions.
