The COVERED Project is a Canada-wide project being conducted by the RID program to better understand the safety and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccination in pregnant and lactating individuals, as well as the attitudes toward vaccination within this population. The data is collected from pregnant and lactating women and people, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status. It is through this study that we hope to help health institutions and care practitioners provide up-to-date recommendations regarding vaccination for pregnant women and people, and also help future parents make informed health decisions during pregnancy.
The COVERED project has been conducted in two iterations so far, with a first study intake conducted from Summer 2021 to Summer 2023 which has now closed to participants and a second intake from Fall 2023-Spring 2024 that is now finished with recruitment as well! Thank you so much to everyone who participated.
Coordinating Centre Lead: Dr. Deborah Money, MD, FRCSC, Professor, Depts. of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Medicine, SPPH, University of British Columbia, Clinician Scientist, Women’s Health Research Institute

Immune Sub-Study
The Immune Sub-Study is a research project, being conducted as part of the COVERED project which is hoping to improve our understanding of the immunogenicity of COVID-19 vaccines in pregnant women and people, as well as the level of transmission from parent to infant for these COVID antibodies through the placenta and/or breastmilk. The study specifically focuses on pregnant women and people who are delivering/planning to deliver at BC Women’s Hospital in Vancouver, BC and have received or are planning to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
This sub-study like the new iteration of COVERED is now closed for recruitment and is working on completing the follow-up visits of the currently enrolled participants. Thank you to everyone who participated!
