On Saturday, August 3rd 2024, during the third day of the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Infectious Diseases Society for Obstetrics and Gynaecology (IDSOG), frequent RID Program collaborator Dr. Isabelle Boucoiran presented an oral abstract entitled “Cytomegalovirus Infection During Pregnancy: Comparison Between Women Living With and Without Human Immunodeficiency Virus” during the fifth oral abstract session of the meeting. This presentation described findings from data collected from two cohorts of CMV seropositive pregnant women and people in Canada: those living with HIV and those living without HIV. The goal of the study was to compare the shedding, viremia and reinfection rates of CMV between the two cohorts, and how these parameters compare within the women/people living with HIV group when stratified by HIV viral load. This poster described findings from a scoping review conducted on the epidemiology, diagnostics, and treatments for Hansen’s Disease in pregnancy as well as the associated outcomes for infected mothers/parents, their placenta and their fetus(es). On Friday, August 2nd 2024, during the second day of the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Infectious Diseases Society for Obstetrics and Gynaecology (IDSOG), RID Program clinical research fellow Dr. Jeffrey Wong presented a poster entitled “Three-Year Efficacy of a Multidisciplinary Approach to Penicillin Allergy Delabelling in Pregnant Patients” during the second poster session of the meeting. This poster described findings from data collected from the medical charts of pregnant women and people who had undergone oral amoxicillin allergy challenge at the Penicillin Allergy Clinic at BCWH for three years following this allergy challenge. This presentation described findings from data collected on amoxicillin oral allergy challenges for pregnant women and people from the Penicillin Allergy Clinic at BCWH and a similar clinic in Manitoba. The goal of the study was to determine the optimal timing (antepartum or postpartum) for these challenges, to optimize delabelling of incorrect penicillin allergies in the pregnant population. On Thursday, August 1st 2024, as part of the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Infectious Diseases Society for Obstetrics and Gynaecology (IDSOG), a session titled “Stump the Professors” was held, in which two cases that involve infectious disease and women’s or perinatal health with unexpected or unusual complications/presentation would be described to a panel of esteemed OBGYN and infectious disease experts. The goal then for the members of the panel would be to determine the final diagnosis from the details provided. Head of the RID Program, Dr. Deborah Money was one of the three members of the panel which also included Dr. Christina Muzny from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Dr. Neil Silverman from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Cases were presented by medical trainees from University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio and the Emory University School of Medicine. 2024 BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute Summer Student Day

On Thursday, July 25th 2024 the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCHRI) hosted its annual Summer Student Day, at the Chieng Family Atrium at the BCHRI. As part of this event, RID Program trainee Sophie Tran presented a poster during the 8th poster presentation session of the day, which included both Clinical & Population Health as well as Foundational Science-based projects. Sophie’s poster was entitled “An Evaluation of COVID-19 Vaccine Reactogenicity and Pregnancy Outcomes, With and Without Influenza Vaccine Coadministration, during Pregnancy in Canada”, and described work that she has done using the data from the COVERED project to determine the reactogenicity and outcomes of pregnant women and people who received either a COVID-19 vaccine alone or co-administered with an influenza vaccine during their pregnancy. From Saturday June 22nd to Tuesday June 25th 2024, the International Human Microbiome Consortium (IHMC) hosted its 10th global congress at the Confindustria Congress Center in Rome, Italy. During the first day of the conference, RID Program PhD Student Zahra Pakzad presented an e-poster (scientific poster projected onto large screen) during the second e-poster session, in the “Engraftment and Maturation of Human Microbiome in Early Life” topic group. Zahra presented an e-poster entitled “Species Level Analysis of Breast Milk Microbiome Using CPN60-Based Sequencing”, which describes the work she has completed as part of the Maternal Microbiome LEGACY Project. On Monday June 17th 2024, the Gynecologic Cancer Initiative hosted its annual Trainee Research Day at the Paetzold Auditorium at Vancouver General Hospital, in Vancouver, BC. This event is conducted every year to allow trainees from across BC who are conducting research related to gynecologic cancers to showcase the research they have been working on, through presentations to their fellow trainees as well distinguished experts in the field. As part of this event, RID Program MSc student Sofia Nicolls presented during the “Screening & Prevention” presentation session. During this session, Sofia presented on the topic of “Incidence of Human Papillomavirus Infection in Women Living with HIV in British Columbia”. This presentation described her current project that she is working on, which is looking to better understand the incidence rates of HPV in women living with HIV (WLWH) in BC through analysis of the data from a long-term follow-up cohort from one of the RID Program’s studies on the HPV vaccine in WLWH. This presentation was on the analysis conducted by Dr. Wong on the effectiveness of the only two penicillin allergy delabelling programs in the country for pregnant women (BCWH Penicillin Allergy Clinic in Vancouver, BC and The Penicillin Allergy Clinic in Winnipeg, MN), and how the different forms of allergy testing/challenge and follow-up visit/no follow-up visit affected the rates of delabelling of these allergies. 113th Meeting of the Canadian House of Commons Standing Committee on Health

On Thursday May 2nd, 2024, RID Program Leader Dr. Deborah Money presented to the Canadian House of Commons Standing Committee on Health in Ottawa, Ontario during their 113th meeting, which was focused on women’s health. She spoke on the importance of women’s heath research, impacts that Canadian research has had in the field of women’s health, the positive advancements in healthcare that can be achieved when women and pregnancy-focused research is prioritized and multiple recommendations on how to improve women’s health research in Canada. During her presentation, Dr. Money used anecdotes of three key research studies/areas she has been involved in during her career, including the first placebo-controlled trial of azidothymidine (the earliest successfully-developed antiretroviral medication) in pregnant women living with HIV, research on HPV vaccination and HPV DNA screening to prevent cervical cancer, and the CANCOVID-Preg study to determine the risk of adverse maternal and infant outcomes in COVID positive pregnancies in Canada, to showcase the aforementioned themes.
